Dan Nowell, a valued HITA member, is a true pioneer in Arizona’s hemp industry, leading the charge in sustainable agriculture. With five years of experience growing hemp in Arizona’s challenging climate, Dan has navigated every obstacle with determination. He is an expert in soil, seed, and water, owning the largest worm farm in the country and dedicating his work to water conservation and regenerative farming.
Dan is on a mission to prove that hemp is not just a crop but a solution. His research with the University of Arizona is providing critical data on water conservation, demonstrating how hemp can hold soil together, retain moisture, and improve long-term soil health. By teaching farmers to use hemp as a rotation crop, he is helping them create more sustainable and profitable agricultural practices.
Beyond farming, Dan is spearheading the “Grow Your Own Home” program, which focuses on using hemp to create sustainable housing materials. Additionally, through his company Soil Seed and Water, he provides high-quality compost and soil amendments, helping farmers and communities grow healthier crops while addressing global food security challenges.
Dan is actively seeking partners for seed trials in Arizona, ensuring that hemp’s role in sustainable agriculture continues to expand. If you’re interested in supporting these efforts, reach out to info@hita-az.org to learn more.
